Tallow Soap vs Commercial Soap: What's the Difference?
Most people don't realize that many soaps sold in stores aren't actually real soap.
What Is Traditional Soap?
Traditional soap is made through a process called saponification, where fats or oils are combined with lye to create soap. Once the process is complete and the bar has cured properly, the finished product is soap and no lye remains in the bar.
For us, we were drawn to the simplicity of traditional soap making and the time-tested results of all natural ingredients like tallow, coconut oil, castor oil and more.
Why Many Commercial Bars Aren't Actually Soap
This surprises a lot of people, but many bars sold in stores are not technically traditional soap.
They may look like soap, feel like soap, and be used like soap, but many are actually detergent based cleansing bars.
As I mentioned above, traditional soap is made through a process called saponification, where fats or oils combine with lye to create real soap.
Many commercial soaps are made with synthetic detergents and surfactants instead.
They may also contain synthetic fragrance, fillers, hardeners, stabilizers, preservatives, artificial colors and other ingredients. This is because they are designed for large scale manufacturing and a long shelf life, not necessarily what's BEST for your skin and your overall health.
Those ingredients can also leave your skin feeling stripped, dry, or irritated.
That’s one of the reasons we love traditional handmade soap with natural fats and oils. They truly nourish your skin while still cleansing.
Why We Use Grass Fed Tallow
Beef tallow has been used in soap making for generations, long before modern skincare existed. While tallow has become increasingly popular in recent years, it isn't a new trend. It's actually one of the oldest soap making ingredients around.
Beef allow creates a rich, creamy lather that feels luxurious while also producing a hard, long lasting bar. It's naturally rich in fatty acids that are beneficial for your skin, which has made it a trusted ingredient in traditional soap making for centuries.
We love that it allows us to create a bar that is simple, effective, and rooted in tradition.
Why We Render Our Own Tallow
This is one of the biggest things that sets our soap apart.
Many modern tallow makers purchase pre-rendered tallow from suppliers. It's often highly refined, bleached, deodorized, and you don't know where it actually comes from.
We chose a different route.
We start with locally sourced grass fed beef suet and slowly render every batch ourselves by hand.
Rendering is a time consuming process, but it's one we believe is worth doing.
By rendering our own tallow, we're able to oversee the entire process from the very beginning. We know where our tallow comes from, how it's handled, and exactly what goes into every batch.
We wanted to focus on creating clean, high quality products, while also focusing on the quality of the ingredients themselves.
From rendering and soap making to cutting, labeling, and packaging, every batch is made by hand by our family.

Why We Choose Simplicity
At the heart of everything we make is a simple belief:
Skincare doesn't have to be complicated.
The world constantly tells us we need more products, more steps, and more ingredients.
But over the past few years, we've found ourselves moving in the opposite direction.
We believe there is value in understanding the ingredients you use.
We believe there is value in choosing products made with care.
And we believe there is value in slowing down and returning to simpler things.
That's why we render our own tallow.
That's why we make our products in small batches.
And that's why every ingredient in our soap is chosen intentionally.
